Well, seeing as how I use this handle on nearly every forum site I visit, and it was still available on Blogger, I figured I'd better snag it while I could. I'm hoping to set up a private blog for family on my personal site, but the idea of a public blog, that I could share with online friends, appealed as well.
Why do I want a public blog? Because I talk too much. Seriously! When I'm telling a story, I tend to get very verbose. My emails and letters to friends and family are always pages long, and that's after I cut them down or limit myself to 1 or 2 topics! Internet forums are places of brevity, so this gives me a place to expound as I wish.
On what topics? I don't know yet. Probably digital scrapbooking at first. That is my new passion in life. What else? Well, let's just wait and see where the wind takes us!

I'm glad that you decided to take the plunge! I started a blog for many of the same reasons. I wanted a place to obsess about and document my personal hobbies, but I didn't want to subject online forums to it. You're in my Google Reader now. :)
